All of the “Back to the Future” storylines this baseball season have surrounded the Chicago Cubs. That makes sense, of course, since the movie’s sequel predicted a Cubs’ World Series victory in 2015. However, that doesn’t mean there are a lack of ties between “Back to the Future” and this year’s actual World Series matchup between the Kansas City Royals and the New York Mets. The MLB Championship Series field is set. Royals-Blue Jays and Cubs-Mets. With the exception of the Royals who ended their 29 year playoff drought last year, we are looking at 3 teams who have waited at least 7 years to enjoy the thrill of playoff baseball. Ironically, the team who most recently won the World Series is the same Blue Jays who previously held the longest playoff drought before winning the pennant in the American League East this year.
